It is with great pleasure that we can announce the programme for the service design fringe festival 2017.
This will be the eagerly anticipated 4th edition of the festival. With events all over London, you will get to see the inside of many organisations practicing service design. The 30+ events on the programme showcase the range of service design going on today, across sectors (including hospitality, transport, healthcare, entertainment) and schools of thought, bordering on UX, Lean, and systems thinking. We have public services, seasoned service design consultancies, independent practitioners, and intraprenuers, all sharing their projects and methods.
This year we shall see the return of several past festival collaborators including STBY, Snook, FutureGov, and UsCreates, each with new styles of events. We also welcome festival newcomers, including Bunnyfoot, Virtusa, Future Cities Catapult, Transform UK, and Spotless.
For the first time, organisations have decided to use the festival as a platform to host launches. Snook are kicking off a breakfast meetup for those designing on the inside of organisations; UsCreates are launching a talk series based on their R&D project Hatch; and Service Lab London are launching a podcast of service design events (which the festival is contributing to!).
An event that is sure to go down in history is going to be run by The Point People. The all-star pioneers of service design will be speaking, including Jennie Winhall, Birgit Mager, Andrea Siodmok, and more.
If you’re interested in ethics, IF are hosting a practical session on ensuring data privacy within your service, and Coloplast will be sharing tips on conducting research with vulnerable people.
We’ve mentioned just a tasty little selection of events here - please see full listings to see the full menu of what’s on offer this year.
As always, some events will be for ‘beginners’ who are new to service design, some will be for service design practitioners to build on their existing knowledge, and others are tailored to clients of service design. This year we are welcoming a new audience: Design Club is holding a workshop for teenagers to learn about design thinking.
Over the next few days, we shall be uploading the events on the website and on Eventbrite. Tickets always go quickly, so make sure you reserve your places at events without delay.
We have introduced a donation ticket for the first time this year, in order to cover festival organising costs. This way, if you can’t afford to pay you can still come for free: we care about making events accessible. The festival is by the service design community, for the service design community, and to welcome new people and organisations into the network. If you benefit from the festival and are able to, please give generously.
